Integration by martial arts
Hey guys!

Integration is an actual topic and Jana and I also discussed,if it is possible to integrate refugees by sports. We asked some people and found out that the SV-Eversburg has got a member, who escaped from his homeland Afghanistan. Therefore, we visited the combat unit Eversburg and asked them how it is to have a refugee in their team.

First, we spoke with the trainer Mark Dörner. He has been training his team for 2 years. Some members are Lebanese and Afghans, but the most of them were born in Germany. He told us about the refugee. His name is Taher Azizi and he is 18 years old. Taher lives in a communal residence near to Eversburg. He only could speak some words German and English. We had to use a translator, so that we could understand him. Taher was a professional fighter in Afghanistan, but the team in Eversburg is only for beginners. Taher told us that he helps Mark to train the guys. In retrun, the members and Mark teach him the German language. Besides, he found new friends in the team. The other members are between 9 and 13 years old, but Taher didn’nt care. They laughed and played together. The team loves Taher and can’t imagin to train without him. Sign language helped them to communicate, but we heard that now Taher can speak better German.

At last we asked the other members, if it is possible to integrate refugees by sports.
They said it’s possible and there aren’t any problems. It doesn’t matter where you come from. The only important aspect is that everybody loves the kind of sport and wants to train.
Taher is a part of the team. He helped them and because of him they are getting better.
Further, we spoke with two adults and they said Taher is a gain for the whole team. He knows how to deal with the children.

We were thankful to visit the team. They had shown us real cohesion and team spirit. After this experience we think it is possible to integrate refugees by sports.

Now, it’s your turn!
What do you think?
Can sports help to integrate refugees or do you know some clubs, who deal with this topic?
Tell us your story!

Yours Lea
